Zero G Locomotion
Currently, full body tracking is not ubiquitous. This means that locomotion systems primarily using hand tracking are the most successful. From my experience, Zero G is one of the most natural and exciting ways to move around in VR. As someone who has always been fascinated in space travel, I wanted to learn how to emulate this feeling.
Unreal Engine
Using Unreal Engine, I learned how to design a Zero G VR movement system. Due to limited and outdated documentation on the subject, I used my understanding of the software to piece together information until I had a working system.
Gravity Sketch
Gravity Sketch is a powerful tool when it comes to environment design. Assessing scale and human factors in mixed reality allows designers to make better informed decisions. The constraints present in architecture on Earth are paralleled by the ones present in traditional 3D design software. The tool often leaves a mark. For space architecture, Gravity Sketch leaves a very complimentary mark.
The jumpsuit was designed in a few hours to add depth to the storytelling. I wanted to have a character floating through the space that I created, but needed an outfit. Instead of trying to find an asset to purchase online, with Gravity Sketch I'm able to whip something up that fits my narrative. If you look closely the geometry isn't airtight, but it serves the purpose of storytelling. It's one of my favorite ways to use Gravity Sketch. Creating supporting assets that I wouldn't be able to find elsewhere.
